Setting-up & Scaling-up CSA courses 2017

We are pleased to announce that we have secured funding from The Esmee Fairbairn Foundation to offer a series of subsidised on-farm tarining courses throughout 2017 & 2018.
These courses will build on the first-hand experience we have gained in establishing our own CSA’s over the past seven years to provide the necessary skills, knowledge and confidence for you to start a CSA in your own community.
The courses will also be targeted at individuals and community groups who have already established a CSA enterprise but are looking to take it to the next level in terms of membership or new enterprises.
Our second course will run on the weekend of the 16th & 17th September 2017, the proposed timetable will be:
Saturday morning 10am start:
Ed Hamer: Introduction to Chagfood & the format of the weekend
                     First steps of a CSA
                     Identifying demand
                     Start up costs and infrastructure
                     Finding a suitable site and securing planning permission
                     Initial business planning
1-2pm Lunch
Saturday afternoon:
Nicky Gibbins: Crop planning specific to CSA’s
                            Fertility building
                            Delivering your first season
                            Managing finances and membership
South-West CSA gathering – a chance to meet growers & Directors from other CSA’s across the south-west
6pm Evening Meal
7pm onwards: Bar with local organic ale & cider (£3 pint)
                           Fire, local music & entertainment
Camping available on site with compost loo & spring water on tap
Local B&B’s can be recommended on request

10am start:
Nicky Gibbins: Increasing membership & marketing
Ed Hamer: Growing field scale
                     Generating additional revenue through wholesale
                     Business planning for expansion
1-2pm Lunch

Sylvan Friend: Tour of Chagfarm meat & dairy CSA

We have a limited number of places on the course offered on a strictly first-come-first-served basis. The full cost is £65 for either day or £110 for both days including meals; (lunch/dinner, breakfast/lunch) and camping on site. We are however offering a 20% discount for members of the CSA Network and members of the Landworkers’ Alliance.
