Setting-up & Scaling-up CSA courses 2019
We are pleased to announce that we have secured funding from The Esmee Fairbairn Foundation to offer a series of subsidised on-farm training courses throughout 2019.
These courses will build on the first-hand experience we have gained in establishing our own CSA’s over the past seven years to provide the necessary skills, knowledge and confidence for you to start a CSA in your own community.
The courses will also be targeted at individuals and community groups who have already established a CSA enterprise but are looking to take it to the next level in terms of membership or new enterprises.
Our fifth course will run on the weekend of the 13th & 14th April 2019, the proposed timetable will be:
Saturday morning 10am start:
Ed Hamer: Introduction to Chagfood & the format of the weekend
First steps of a CSA
Start up costs and infrastructure
Finding a suitable site and securing planning permission
Initial business planning
Dan Burston: Crop planning specific to CSA’s
Delivering your first season
Managing finances and membership
6pm Evening Meal
Camping available on site with compost loo & spring water on tap
Local B&B’s can be recommended on request
Ed Hamer: Increasing membership & marketing
Growing field scale
Generating additional revenue through wholesale
Business planning for expansion

Sylvan Friend: Tour of Chagfarm meat & dairy CSA
We have a limited number of places on the course offered on a strictly first-come-first-served basis. The full cost is £75 for either day or £130 for both days including meals; (lunch/dinner, breakfast/lunch) and camping on site. We are however offering a 20% discount for members of the CSA Network and members of the Landworkers’ Alliance.
